Historic Renovation Is Our Specialty
At Williams Historic Restoration Inc., our top priority when it comes to historic restoration is quality – plain and simple. Our craftsmen provide personalized service and attention to detail on every project, and our goal is to preserve the building’s original quality without cutting corners.
Renovating is an art and, unfortunately, there are times when a home’s original materials are simply not available anymore. In reality, only 10-15 percent of homes can be restored with completely original pieces.
Our craftsmen thrive off of these challenges. We know skilled workers that can specially make certain rare or outdated materials, but sometimes we have to find a new way to go about it. If we have to install new products, we have a lot of knowledge and experience in using replacements that uphold the character of the home. Because of this, the historical value is always kept intact.
We typically start with roofing, guttering and exterior woodwork restoration, which makes up about 75 percent of the project needs. We then turn to interior needs such as kitchen, bathroom and trim work to restore homes from their current condition to a nice “new” condition that still upholds all the original value of the past.
Our Historic Projects
Historic districts have lists of approved contractors and Williams Historic Restoration Inc. is on those lists. Working time and again with the Detroit Historical Society, we have restored homes and buildings back to their deserved state in several Detroit area neighborhoods including Indian Village, West Village, Boston Edison, Palmer Woods, Grosse Pointe, Birmingham and Pleasant Ridge.
Walking through these neighborhoods is like taking a trip back in time, and that sort of historic restoration work takes the knowledge, skill and dedication to quality that the WHR Inc. team has.
We are not interested in getting in and out for the money. Our second- and third-generation craftsmen want to see a beautiful finished product as much as the client does, and we rely on word-of-mouth for our work. You can’t do that if you compromise on renovations.
Our extensive experience and love for working on historic projects gives us the know-how to renovate them and the care to pay attention to that majestic, old-world detail that preserves the character of the past.
